ARB and Mean Mother High Lift & Exhaust Jacks
A high lift jack is the first piece of recovery kit you need before you say goodbye to the bitumen. Your vehicle will have been delivered with a conventional jack for tyre changing, but that will be quite unsuitable for when you need to leverage your entire 4WD out of soft ground etc. If you are going anywhere where you risk bogging or grounding your vehicle, you must have the means to jack it up, clear of the ground and enable you to infill the terrain to give adequate support. At Ultimate 4WD, we carry hi lift jacks from trusted brands ARB and Mean Mother. Known for years as kangaroo jacks, these highly durable pieces of kit can elevate your vehicle up to 90cms, clearing obstacles and allowing traction to be restored by filling the space created with supporting material such as tred rocks and lumber. These jacks have unrivalled high strength, and a lifting capacity, ARB up to 1050kgs and Mean Mother up to 1500kg. These typically straightforward jacks can be adapted to provide firm footing on soft or sandy ground with a sand base. They also comply with AS/NZS2693:2007.
There are two big misconceptions when it comes to the high lift or kangaroo jacks; the first is that you can use it on any vehicle you want. This is incorrect, because of the large amount of weight and pressure cause by lifting a vehicle being put on to the load point of the jack, you need to jack or a safe point to prevent serious damage to yourselves or the vehicle. The second misconception with these jacks is that you can use them to change you tyre, which is only half true, you can use these jacks to bring your vehicle to the desired height for inserting axle stands, but using them as stands them self is incredibly dangerous and even life threatening. This is due to the unsteady base the jack has, which in normal circumstances will suit the job at hand, the small unsteady bases original design was to assist you in lifting and then pushing your vehicle out of a problem rut or hole.
Originally designed just over 110 years ago in the early 90’s, starting its life out as a helpful tool for farmers, giving them advantages like the ability to pull out fence post from the ground. The Hi-Lift jack has since become an essential accessory to be used with your serious 4wd, giving you the ability to use it as a hand winch, lift the vehicle out of a rut and in a rare case, to pry open body panels that have been damaged in a roll over.
Mean Mother High lift Jacks
Compared to the 110+ year old Hi-lift jacks, Mean Mother is brand new, but that hasn’t stopped them from creating a jack that a holds a huge 1500kg a lot more weight than Hi-lifts current 1050kg. Using the past experience Hi-lift has encountered, Mean Mothers Australian engineers have set out to create a better, stronger jack that is guaranteed to give you support in any conditions you face.
Mean Mother Air / Exhaust Jacks
When you get bogged in really soft terrain, a steel jack simply won’t cut it, even with a sand base the jack can still sink in to the sand. This problem can easily be solved with the aid of an exhaust jack, these jacks attach to your exhaust and uses the car’s engine to pump them up. Exhaust fuse can be noxious, dirty and cause long term damage to the jack, but an easy, safer solution is to simply use the supplied connector for an air compressor. The great thing about exhaust jacks is that they are completely universal, meaning that they can be used on nearly any vehicle, on almost any ground, and because they are light and take up a lot less than a high lift jack, the exhaust jack is also very portable.
When installed underneath your bogged vehicle, the bag will lift the vehicle up slowly as it inflates as to clear itself of the terrain, enabling you to take whatever measures are necessary to restore your traction or even change a tyre. With the Mean Mother air jacks have a lifting capacity up to an amazing 4,000kgs, being so portable and its universal use, the Mean mother exhaust jack has go to be one of the most important pieces to your kit.
