A high lift jack or kangaroo jack is a piece of kit you really must have when you leave the bitumen. At Ultimate 4WD we stand by the ARB and Mean Mother ranges of high-lift jacks – brand names you can trust when you’re far from home and you’ve got yourself somewhere you shouldn’t!
Originally designed just over 110 years ago in the early 90’s, starting its life out as a helpful tool for farmers, giving them advantages like the ability to pull out fence post from the ground. The Hi-Lift jack has since become an essential accessory to be used with your serious 4wd, giving you the ability to use it as a hand winch, lift the vehicle out of a rut and in a rare case, to pry open body panels that have been damaged in a roll over.
There are two big misconceptions when it comes to the high lift or kangaroo jacks; the first is that you can use it on any vehicle you want. This is incorrect, because of the large amount of weight and pressure cause by lifting a vehicle being put on to the load point of the jack, you need to jack or a safe point to prevent serious damage to yourselves or the vehicle. The second misconception with these jacks is that you can use them to change you tyre, which is only half true, you can use these jacks to bring your vehicle to the desired height for inserting axel stands, but using them as stands them self is incredibly dangerous and even life threatening. This is due to the unsteady base the jack has, which in normal circumstances will suit the job at hand, the small unsteady bases original design was to assist you in lifting and then pushing your vehicle out of a problem rut or hole.
Then there’s our range of Tred 4x4 recovery tracks, engineered and designed in Australia due to the result of intensive research and development in the harsh Australian conditions, these recovery boards are made to give you and maintain that needed traction when recovering a vehicle. Due to their rugged materials and design, these recovery boards are made to suit every vehicle from a dual axel truck, right down to an ATV or bike, which makes them a must have item in every vehicle. Even if you don’t have a recovery kit in your vehicle, the Tred 4x4 recovery tracks are a suggested item that you should have; this is due to their simple use and build. But the biggest plus for these tracks, is that you can use them without the assistance from anyone else, this means that when you’re stuck on a remote beach or track with no one in site, you can pull these tracks out and recover yourself.
It may be hard comparing the Treds to the other well-known options on the market, but when you take in to account their rugged construction and the included “lifetime warranty” which isn’t included with any other product in their field, it’s an easy choice..
When you’re far from the bitumen and stuck somewhere awkward, it’s a bit late to think of that vital bit of 4x4 recovery gear you should have brought with you. ARB one of the great Australian names in off-roading, have done the thinking for you by creating an extensive range of recovery gear which includes their already assembled recovery kits. These kits include everything you need including items like snatch straps and blocks, chains, shackles and even gloves – so you’ll never be caught short-handed!
